Many members in one body: The church is a unified whole (one body), yet we are distinct within that one body (individually members). It is continuously altering. Adoption begets prayer, for it brings us the spirit of adoption whereby we cry, Abba, Father. God is the sovereign King, the righteous Judge, and to him it belongs to administer justice; for, being a God of infinite knowledge, by him actions are weighed in unerring balances; and, being a God of infinite purity, he hates sin and cannot endure to look upon iniquity. God often gives liberally to prayer when it speaks but once, but frequent pleading begets abundant answering. Now all our duty towards one another is summer up in one word, and that a sweet work. Just as the main body of Romans is lengthy and weighty, so his final remarks, by contrast, are succinct yet compelling. Thus one could not fail to see these two weighty inferences: the bringing in to be God's sons of those that had not been His people, and the judgment and destruction of the great mass of His undoubted people. Such seasons should be improved; they are the spring times of our piety; and we should expand every sail, that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. They are happy, blessed moments of our life; and then devotion is sweetest and most pure; and then the soul knows what it is to have fellowship with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ, 1 John 1:3.
